MVP design, to be well received by target users
Students are unsure of where to turn to for career advice. While, University of Toronto alumni want to support students, but need an experience that fits into their busy schedules.
How can we improve the mentorship experience between University of Toronto students and alumnis?
Implemented a design-thinking process to create a solution that would provide the best experience for University of Toronto students and alumni.
To understand the current mentorship space and its users, our team conducted primary and competitive analysis on mentorship experiences at the University of Toronto and elsewhere.
We conducted 16 individual interviews and an online survey with 34 respondents to better understand our target users.
Once we collected our data, we created an affinity map and clustered similar responses to identify common themes.
From our research we narrowed down the scope through empathy mapping, user personas, and as-is scenarios.
Our design challenge involved two user types, we created two separate user personas. The student and the alumni.
Once we identified Susan and Andy's needs and goals, we created an as-is scenario for each user to help us visually see their current journey and identify pain points and areas of opportunities.
We further refined the goal for the project by generating 30 ideas to address Susan the student and Andy the alumni’s needs and obstacles. By dot voting, we further narrowed down plausible solutions.
With these 15 ideas, we created a prioritization grid to determine the most impactful and most feasible ideas to help tackle mentor-mentee mentorship at
U of T.
Based on the ideas we narrowed down, we created low-fidelity solution.
Using the low-fidelity designs, the team conducted guerrilla testing with 3 representative users to identify any gaps in our knowledge, overlooked issues, and friction points with the decisions made so far.

•
A majority of the time was spent defining the problem space, understanding user pain points, mapping out what their current and future user journey compared to heads-down designing.
•
Development of MVP would be needed for high fidelity user testing to further iterate and improve upon the design
•
Once MVP is in the hands of users, we want to monitor KPI metrics such as app churn, app downloads, app event tracking, user satisfaction, and in-app feedback.
